Looking at current means of data storage and manipulation: The
database, word processor, and spreadsheet, they all suffer from
restricted formats, the database requires information in set
'fields',the word processor requires information to be written into
sequential pages - but the word processor posses no intelligence,
the only way you can get information is by reading it all, and
finally the spreadsheet, the most intelligent, yet most restrictive
of all.
With TCOS, I have tried to include the flexibility of a word
processor with an intelligent system of organisation. The program
doesn't process data - I hope to do something like that in a later
program. As it stands, TCOS is a versatile utility capable of
doing many tasks, which I hope it will be put to.

Because of TCOS's flexible structure, a system can be easily
created to suit a specific task; and then anybody can use it
because of the simple presentation - Just point and click the
option you want.
Select an use here, and TCOS will give you some ideas as to

It would be easy to recreate any flow-charted
system onto TCOS, anything from medical diagnosis,
to plant identification. On each card you would
write a question, such as 'Are the edges of the
leaves serrated?' in plant identification, and then
give a choice of answers, in this case only yes or
no. The cards following on from this would contain
further questions until the final answer was
reached.
As an added bonus, pictures could be incorporate
where descriptions were too difficult. The end
result would be a system simple enough for anyone
to use.

TCOS can easily be used to store information, as the tree
structure allows you to reference information into categories.
This frees you from the restriction of databases, which force
you into putting information into predefined slots (where it
rarely fits!), while giving the ability to structure
information - someting which was never possible with a word
processor. Even if there is too much information to put onto
the computer, e.g. in a library, TCOS could make finding the
right book alot quicker, and easier, than flicking through a
card index system, or scouring a microfiche!
As an example of information storage - try out the
demonstration - it shows how you can classify computers by
number of bits and by type of processor.

TCOS could be used in any number of ways as a
teaching aid - perhaps you could create a
guessing game, or quiz, or a small adventure
game, where a problem has to be solved by the
pupil. The way in which it is implemented is up
to you - the possibilities are endless!
